Terrible even for a carpenter's chisel

I didn't buy this to make nice furniture, I got it for its intended use as a carpenter's chisel. Even in this role, the thing sucks. The edge, which I didn't expect to be "sharp", turned out to be slightly chipped. The back end was not flat at all and one corner on the edge had a fairly deep indentation. As a personal challenge, I went to work sharpening this chisel to a furniture maker's level, but gave up. The back needed so much work that I finally said "that's enough" and gave up. The steel doesn't feel harsh as my initial leveling and edging work was done with regular AO sandpaper and the steel cut easily. I thought or hoped it was made in the US but of course it's made in China. The only saving grace is that the handle is comfortable and the blade is not a plug. I would advise against this chisel.

Pros
  • Blade guard protects the working edges
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
