Review on Heavy-Duty Utility Knife With Zinc Alloy Body, Rubber Grip Handle & Retractable 3 Position - Plus Extra 5 Blades Refills And Safe Box Cutter Design By WORKLION by Carlos Whitfield

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I was really liking this one, until I discovered an issue.

Pros:It does the job. You can read all the pros in other reviews, and I have nothing to add, so I won’t duplicate them here.Cons:I learned this the hard way. The two sliding buttons that cause the blade to extend out of the housing leave something to be desired in terms of safety. I’ll describe these two buttons separately: (1) The sliding button that is SILVER colored on the top side of the device has no locking aspect to it whatsoever. It simply slides freely. SO, if you happen to put this device into a shirt, pants, or coat pocket, or even a tool pouch, if that sliding button happens to push up against something else inside that pocket, or if it gets pushed upon from outside the pocket, the pointy end of the blade extends out of the housing. This can cause damage to the pocket, your hand, or anything that comes into contact with that extended blade in your pocket. (2) The ORANGE sliding button on the side does have a very slight locking aspect to it, in that you do have to very slightly depress that button before it will slide and cause the blade to extend out of the housing. That’s good, and that’s something that the previously mentioned silver sliding button does not have. However, it’s still lacking, in that the orange button needs only to be depressed very SLIGHTLY and with LIGHT pressure, in order to "unlock” the button and allow it to slide forward, causing the pointy blade to extend from the housing. I think it is very possible that this button could be inadvertently activated if something rubs up against it in a pocket or a tool pouch.Verdict:I actually like this utility knife, in that it feels good in the hand and has some nice convenience features built in. We all understand that any utility knife such as this is inherently dangerous and must be used with extreme care. But this particular model has what I consider to be a design issue that results in a potential hazard that I personally cannot accept, especially in light of the fact that there are competing models available that are very similar in functionality but differing in design and therefore not having the issues I described. It’s far too easy, in my opinion, to inadvertently cause the blade to extend when it’s hidden in a pocket, or a tool pouch, or other such blind enclosure. Aside from that flaw, it is a well designed utility knife. But I would recommend selecting another model due to what I consider to be an unacceptable safety issue. If you found this review to be of any value whatsoever, I would appreciate it if you would click on the "Helpful" button below, to let me know that I’m not totally wasting my time by writing these reviews. I thank you for that feedback!
