Review on AOC U2790VQ – 4K Frameless DisplayPort Monitor with Tilt Adjustment, Wall Mount, Blue Light Filter by Abdurahman Colvin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

One of two nearly identical, excellent and affordable 4K monitors.

If you're looking for a cheap 4K monitor, this one should definitely interest you. I like its 350 nits of brightness, especially when watching video streams. This is a massive improvement over my previous 250 nit 4K monitor. The additional nits provide more contrast and deeper blacks. In terms of performance, this is a good monitor. The settings menu system is a bit odd, but there's nothing a sane person can't handle. The guide is not very helpful and only states the obvious. Once you've figured it all out and made your choice, most of what you need is controlled via the joystick power button on the back, which is very easy. Many AOC monitors have Philips counterparts that are internally identical. In the case of the AOC U2790VQ, the counterpart is the Philips 276E8VJSB. As well as being cheaper, Philips also offers a 4-year replacement warranty, although I have no idea how well Philips supports this. Why did I buy AOC and not Philips? For health reasons, I need a height-adjustable monitor. Neither AOC nor Philips comes with a height-adjustable stand. However, AOC has a VESA mount, while Philips doesn't. Replacing the stand that comes with AOC for a good, durable, and inexpensive VESA stand is a no-brainer. The kickstands that come with these monitors aren't that strong. Also, AOC cables are better hidden than Philips. But that's a nitpick. Note: You can purchase the Philips 278E1A, which is almost identical in spec to the 276E8VJSB and includes a VESA mount. So it turns out it's no cheaper than AOC. So if you don't need a VESA mount or a really solid stand, go for a Philips monitor. costs another $50 or so to fix you.
