When we bought our HP DesignJet the adapter was very expensive so we used the USB port that came with it and plugged it into a PC that happened to be nearby. Sometimes, for one reason or another, that PC isn't turned on, or someone "updated" it and forgot to install the printer drivers - it's not a big deal, but it's annoying when all you want to do is print. The network eliminated the hassle of being near a server computer and made the printer available to everyone in the office. you need to find out what he came up with from DHCP and then go to the built-in web page to change it. Aside from the fact that installation was easy.
