Works on the HP 4300 printer line!

I use an old HP 4300 printer and it works without any problems - ie it hasn't been noticed. The original part for the 4300 series of printers was the 615n. I replaced this part with another 615n about 7 years ago and the replacement recently came loose so following the advice in these reviews I decided to try the 620n and hope it lasts until I replace the printer . The essence of this review: 620n works in the 4300 line of printers and, judging by the reviews, is more reliable than the original

Pros
  • A good thing
Cons
  • For retirees

Recommended replacement for the original HP-615N

HP recommends this print server adapter as a replacement for the original 615N which has a failed ASIC chip. 620N. You can get more information on this topic by searching the Internet. The HP-620N is available at AMAZON for an additional $5!

Pros
  • Large selection

  • Waiting too long

New life for my old printer

My current computer doesn't have a parallel port so I used my Laserjet 4000 with a USB parallel adapter. The print speed for text documents was ok, but PDFs and documents with lots of graphics took forever to get to the printer. The printer had been a reliable workhorse for over fifteen years and I hated getting rid of it, but I needed more speed. I bought this JetDirect 620n to extend the life of my printer and avoid the expense of a new laser printer. I'm very glad I did this. Setup was easy;

NO REFERENCES: Print server

No referrals sent from server. Only one more part in an envelope. It was very difficult to get started as HP does not have updated software and online instructions are for older networks. After many hours I used the instructions to enable the correct map features on my HP 4050. Then I found all the available IPs in the Ethernet Hub app (we had to disable one) and reinstalled the printer's shared port with the appropriate IP, then it found the server. HP support is mostly non-existent except for

Inexpensive and easy way to share your plotter online.

When we bought our HP DesignJet the adapter was very expensive so we used the USB port that came with it and plugged it into a PC that happened to be nearby. Sometimes, for one reason or another, that PC isn't turned on, or someone "updated" it and forgot to install the printer drivers - it's not a big deal, but it's annoying when all you want to do is print. The network eliminated the hassle of being near a server computer and made the printer available to everyone in the office. you need to…

Works great - print server

Plugged it in, gave it a static IP address and now after a year of trying to share the old Laser Jet 5100 on the network we can! Incidentally, Microsoft's support and sharing of this printer via the parallel port was terrible. We installed this card and got it up and running in 30 minutes.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Excellent replacement card

I have an old HP Laserjet that I used to share on the desktop with family laptops. With the constant transition to Windows 10 a few years ago and different operating systems on family machines, the printer wasn't reliable for sharing, connections dropped etc. I decided to just plug it into a port on my FIOS router - just to find out that the HP 615 card EIO was obviously bad at it. I bought the 620 for about $20 and it was a no-brainer. Install it, turn on the printer and boom EIO menu.

  • Price

  • Almost everything is there
