Review on πŸš— 1999-2000 Chevrolet C/K Pickup TYC Starter Motor: Compatible and Reliable by Ronald Noel

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good quality starters.

Purchased for my 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 NBS Truck with 4.8L Vortec engine. My truck did 192,000 miles and my original starter motor finally died. It's a newer type of starter that GM later put on trucks and the like, but works the same way. It is actually slightly smaller than my original starter and comes with a long bolt to replace my starter which has a long bolt and a short bolt. This starter is much easier to install than the original starter with a larger short screw. In addition, if you are doing this job yourself on a similar car, I disconnected the oil level gauge and removed the dipstick. Otherwise this starter is very difficult to install as it sits above the transmission cooler lines. One screw, turn and pull on the dipstick and it pops out instantly. Just make sure the o-ring is good and has oil on it before reinstalling. This starter seemed to be of good quality and I'm sure it will last at least a couple of years. Still better than the new $160 Napa starter and the $55 core. I couldn't bring myself to pay that much for a starter at an auto parts store knowing that I can easily restore my original starter for about $40, and I end up doing just that to keep it as a backup have, just in case this one costing $68 won't break. wait, but honestly I think it's going to take quite a while. Time will tell and if anything goes wrong I'll update this post. **UPDATE** This starter has been running for over a year with no problems, I drive this car every day! ** UPDATE JUNE 2020 ** Starter still works strong! Daily driving, now 220,000 miles on the odometer.
