As another reviewer said, the pole is actually hollow and the bottom is completely open. However, this doesn't really affect anything. The only downside is that the mount is completely straight. One of them is on my family's bike, which has a 7-degree stem that forces the mount to continue down that path. It would be nice if there was one that had an angle to make the mount more parallel to the ground. On my parallel stem bikes, the aesthetic is much nicer. Easy to assemble and holds every accessory I add.
