Review on Alpine SPS M601 Type S Coaxial Speakers by Bill Russett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Finally the sound I wanted!

22ft bowrider with old Alpine MRV-F505 v-12 Expert 4-channel amplifier and new Alpine MRV-M500 mono subwoofer. Sony Marine MEXM70BT Head Unit. 2 SPS-M601 in the bow and 2 SPS-M601 in the middle of the boat, plus 2 SPR-M700 in the stern of the boat and a 10" SWR-M100 Alpine SUB in the ski compartment. Alone the m700s produce a very rich and full sound. Once I adjusted the gain of the amp so the 601 could handle the same volume levels as the 701 the 601 was a real asset.Adding speakers to the bow of the boat made a world of difference!I can drown out any baby or engine noise !The addition of SUB gave the "feel" of a really BIG system. Now we have pretty clear sound in the boat at 40mph+ and when I'm standing still. Well it's just embarrassingly loud and clear when I turn it on. I had 4 JBL 6.5 marine speakers and they just didn't give the same bass range as the Alpine m601 or m700.If you have room for the m701 this is a better speaker with a lot more bass. The 601's are really good all rounders or Entry-level speakers you can't go wrong with.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Modern

Nice upgrade for the OEM speakers on my pontoon boat. The sound is so vastly improved.
