As we got older, getting in and out of a pickup truck became more difficult. Jumping off the back door also put extra pressure on my ankles. I installed Bedstep on my 2001 Chevy truck and it works fine with the tailgate down or up. I had to buy new bolts to install it on the truck as the original bolts that came on the truck were too short. If GM hadn't ground down the last 1/2 inch of the bolts (I think they do this to make installation easier) the stock bolts would have worked. I had trouble finding metric nuts/bolts this size so I only used 7/16" nuts/bolts. I suggest inserting the screw from the side of the bedside table as the bedside table has countersunk holes and it would be difficult to fit a washer, lock washer and nut into that hole. The step is easy to lower and put back in place, and now it's much easier to get on and off the truck bed with the help of the footboard. The stand came with two extra screws and I have no idea what they are for, the manual lists the screws in the box inventory and then again doesn't mention them.
