well done but not as accurate as the others.

Manipulator pliers are indispensable tools for twisting and manipulating wires. They also work with hammers and wrenches and sometimes even a crowbar, which is why they are often abused. It's very good so far. I didn't close the wires, so I can't comment on the insulation. They are just as comfortable as other pairs I own or have owned. So far no signs of rust. In terms of leverage, I tested another pair from a more expensive company and didn't feel any difference, so I don't know if they can back up the leverage increase claim. Most good linesmen claim to have high leverage (although the Crescent actually has a double pivot that really makes a difference), but the key is that they cut everything within reason. I've seen more than one electrician test a pair by halving a penny and this seems like the right test. They work well and go through a dime or puck just as quickly and easily as anything I've tried, but I find the cutting edge isn't as accurate as others I've tried hence 4 stars instead of 5. They are smooth rotation and require less effort. Trouble than the old couple, but remember that tools get used to it and dirt and grime in the hinge is key to smooth cutting. I've noticed that they leave a jagged edge on a penny or puck so I'm wondering why. When cutting thinner wires, they must have a clear edge. The same probably doesn't apply to use as a wrench. The gap at the edge of the pliers is about 1/32 inch when closed, but they feel perfectly flat and parallel, which is more important. Visually, it doesn't look pretty, like a perfectly matched edge. They're well made and should work very well, but if you're looking for the best and most accurate you may need to spend a little more. For everyday use they are good and a bit cheaper than the branded versions. They appear to be well made from good steel, so I expect them to last until they disappear (which they do from time to time).

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Very expensive
