Review on Premier Gear PG 17933 Professional Starter by Anthony Jagers

Revainrating 5 out of 5

So far so good for spare parts

You only need a few tools to get the job done. Driver side starter 5.7 hemi. My truck is a 2005 1500 4x4 Ram with an automatic transmission and a 5.7 Hemi. tools required. 10 mm wrench for disconnecting the battery. On the 3/8 drive, I used a 15mm flat socket and a 3" extension ratchet for the bottom bolt that holds the starter. Note: This is a hidden screw that is only visible when you look behind the metal bracket. I then used a 15mm head with no extension for the top screw. I used a pan head wrench and didn't need an extension for the top screw. If you don't have a swivel wrench I would suggest installing a 6 inch extension. You move on, leaving more room to work it out, and then go back to reinstall it. I disconnected the small starter cable with the black clip and fitted the old starter to the frame so I could use a 13mm open end wrench to disconnect the main power cable with nut. Note: You can disconnect both cables before removing the starter screws, but for me it made it easier this way to have a full view and access to those cables etc. I had just enough extra cable length to safely lower the starter onto the frame accessing everything is much easier. I noticed on my old starter that there was a lot of green corrosion on the copper wire connecting the motor to the magneto. So I decided to use dielectric grease on all connections including the copper wire. Just to protect things from possible corrosion. I'm pretty sure the lube won't last long, but I still felt a little better using it. Perhaps using a battery post spray would have taken longer, but it wasn't on hand. Just follow the installation procedure for the new launcher in reverse order. Apart from a dead start I had no problems.
