First, let's cover the basics for those who absolutely are sure what that adapter is for. It has a 1/4" square socket on one end for attachment to a ratchet or similar tool. The other end has a 1/4" hex socket for accepting standard 1/4" bits. It is non-magnetic. uses a mechanical spring mechanism to grip bits that have a matching retainer on the bit shank. The retainer looks like a groove that runs around the perimeter of the bar. As far as I know all standard 1/4"-Bits that slot. To activate the bit retention mechanism, you must firmly push the bit into the hex head until it clicks into place. Once attached, the adapter holds the bit very securely and the bit will not fall out. As long as the spring and detent can engage securely, I don't think anything slightly different from the standard 1/4" size will necessarily loosen and fall out.
