I bought this kvm about a month ago and it seems to work quite well. that the documentation is somewhat limited and you should be aware of the limitations of your computer. The documentation doesn't mention this, but it seems to me that the USB signal in the supplied cables goes to the KVM via the VGA connector. Therefore, you need to use the included cables and connect the green end to the KVM switch. Since USB is a serial signal, there's a good chance you could switch in the middle of information from a mouse or keyboard and really mess up your computers. It's best NOT to move the mouse or use the keyboard when switching. My Mac also plays haywire when I switch from it on startup or shutdown. Since it does both of those things much faster than my computer, I'll wait. At least the Mac throws an error message saying it can't find the Bluetooth mouse. As a maximum depends. A little wait is a small price to pay for less clutter and clutter from a single keyboard and screen. Also remember that external drives, including flash drives, should be plugged directly into the computer you are using them with. Otherwise, your computers will warn you to disconnect without properly disconnecting these USB devices when switching. If you're only connected for a short time, you can use the switch's USB ports, but make sure you disconnect before switching. I'm not in the middle of a print job. Think before you switch and you'll be fine. This should apply to any KVM as you're trying to keep your computers from getting confused by mouse and keyboard data fragments, partially completed print jobs, drives getting in and out, etc. allows me to easily transfer data from my old to mine without another box new computer and hooking them both up to a router elsewhere in my house with a broadband connection over a single cable. This gave me the luxury of migrating to my new computer one program at a time. The additional USB ports on the front of the Switch also allow me to hang up multiple USB cables to connect to anything I want to quickly upload or download. Convenient function. The switch has a mode where if you want to change the focus partially you just press the button quickly and if you want to change it completely you hold the switch for a few seconds. So if you hit a switch and everything doesn't work the way you expect, just hold down the right switch and you'll be fine. I don't use the partial toggle feature intentionally, but I did it by accident. It is better to position the switch so that it does not touch the keys.
