After some trouble, it works fine on Ubuntu 16.04 with Linux 4.4.0 kernel. They don't officially support this kernel, but I was able to find a driver on GitHub for a device that does. I'm giving 4 stars because it's difficult to find a solution to support the new kernel. The company really should update their own drivers. To ensure the driver is enabled on reboot, run: $ sudo nano /etc/modules Now add 8812au to the very end of this file and save it. After that everything is ready. Plug in the device and it will be recognized and the activity indicator will flash and you can connect to the desired network as usual.
