Review on High-Speed USB WiFi Adapter with Dual Band 2.4G/5.8Ghz and External Antenna for Windows/Mac by Jerry Chembola

Revainrating 5 out of 5

With a little effort I got it working on Linux with kernel version 4.4.0

After some trouble, it works fine on Ubuntu 16.04 with Linux 4.4.0 kernel. They don't officially support this kernel, but I was able to find a driver on GitHub for a device that does. I'm giving 4 stars because it's difficult to find a solution to support the new kernel. The company really should update their own drivers. In addition, the device works very well and the connection is reliable and fast. --- Linux 4.4.0 kernel driver installation instructions -------------------------------------- - - -------------------For reference, my output is uname -a:Linux alex-ubuntu 4.4.0-83-generic #106-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jun 26 17:54 :43 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The driver is available on GitHub in the repository diederikdehaas/rtl8812AU To install, run: above repository)$ cd rtl8812AU/$ make$ sudo make install$ sudo modprobe 8812au From Now the module is working . To ensure the driver is enabled on reboot, run: $ sudo nano /etc/modules Now add 8812au to the very end of this file and save it. After that everything is ready. Plug in the device and it will be recognized and the activity indicator will flash and you can connect to the desired network as usual.

Pros
  • . Operating system compatible with Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8. 1/10 and Mac OS X 10.6~10.15.3 (does not work with Linux)
Cons
  • Hard to tell
