Review on ⏲️ Polder Digital Kitchen Timer: Streamlining Precision in Culinary Timing by Jenna Morocho

Revainrating 4 out of 5

good timer with a few flaws

I have two polder timers, one I bought about 15 years ago and it still works well (pictured right). Another polder timer is the model in question. here. First a few words about the classic car: It is reliable (15 years old!); the keys are a bit smaller, but that's not a problem; the magnet and the crib still work, although I've dropped it several times; excellent battery life; immune to electromagnetic interference (see below). The most annoying feature is waiting a few seconds for the fast countdown to start, meaning if you want to set it to sixty minutes you can press the minutes button sixty times or you can hold the minutes button until the fast countdown starts. counts to sixty, but you have to wait a few seconds to start a quick count. This new polder model (picture left) that I bought two years ago starts very quickly with a quick count; its display is nice, big and easy to read; the beeper is slightly weaker than the older model; and the magnet and kickstand are useless. The magnet fell out within the first week and the folding stand broke shortly afterwards. It also has another interesting downside. We have a gas stove that uses a piezoelectric igniter to ignite a flame on each burner. This type of igniter creates a high voltage spark to ignite the gas. The spark creates an EMP (you all know what that is, right? Electromagnetic Pulse.) that resets this timer to zero and stops it when the timer comes within range. We learned this the hard way after setting a few items on fire when the timer ran out due to one of the gas burners igniting while the timer was running. We love the timer and still use it, but keep it far enough away from the burner to prevent resetting. A bit squishy than the older model, but for the price it's pretty good.
