a little tight. Two shelves fell off recently. A solution had to be found for this. They didn't fit exactly, just gave them a couple of hammer blows. Ba boom, right inside. Longer than the ones that came with the bookshelf. strong feeling I have a feeling the dowels will last a long time. Happy with our purchase. :)
