I bought a Bros Trend 1200 for Linux. My intention was to turn an old, underperforming computer I had lying around into a hotspot to extend Wi-Fi to the bedrooms in my house. I currently have a Netgear 7000 in my family room on the ground floor. Fire Sticks connected to the TVs in these rooms operate at 15 Mbps and can drop to 7 Mbps when many other wireless networks are in use. I've tried several solutions from powerine adapters to extenders and repeaters with no success with a stronger or more stable signal. I use Ubuntu as the primary OS throughout my house and need to set up two Plex servers for streaming. Since it said it works with Linux I thought I found a solution. It works with Linux, but it wasn't plug and play. I had to search for the drivers and install them through the terminal, but everything worked for me. The problem is that the hotspot option doesn't work with the drivers I found and after several days of trying to install and configure the drivers to allow use as a hotspot. I gave up. Luckily I still had a copy of Windows 7 with a working license. After installing Windows, I installed the program that came with the adapter and it worked. I have a computer that is hardwired to the LAN directly from a Netgear 7000 with the antenna mounted high up on the wall. You can move it around the room with the included USB extension cable. Setting up the hotspot with the included software was very easy. This gave me the option to choose either 2.4GHz or 5GHz or automatically, as well as whichever channel I wanted. After setting up the tests on a Fire Stick down the hall and through two walls, I got 35Mbps on the 5GHz band. I've been using it since purchase, no problems and no signal loss. This allowed me to operate the devices upstairs with separate WiFi and extend the range to my patio and pool. I'm still trying to find an open source alternative to get Hotspot working on Linux, but for now it has to be done.
