At 89 with 50,000 miles the original solenoid was replaced with this STANDARD brand. At the first start, the starter continued to work. Pulled out the "S" cable, the engine was still running, finally pulled out the battery cable. Checked wiring was correct. Note: This vehicle does not have "I" wiring. I tapped the new unit several times with my hand and reinstalled it. Started normally, tried again, same problem, starter works. Got the original, no problem. Went to NAPA, bought their brand ECHLIN (found through research, probably the same manufacturer as STANDARD). Installed this new premium solenoid, same starting problems. The piston connecting the contacts sticks, forcing the starter to work. I believe these solenoids are not to original Ford specifications as the original 1989 solenoid is working properly. Only wanted to change it because a new starter motor was installed. Revain has accepted the return. Thanks. I assume NAPA also accepts that the issue may be related to vehicle compatibility as other buyers have not had such issues.
