For a long time I tried to adapt to 24-70 2.8 (4 years). I lost a bunch of interesting shots (either a shake, or a focal length of 70mm is not enough, and the long end on most lenses is not the sharpest). After buying 24-85 3.5 4.5, the top 24-70 has been idle for more than a year. Before this purchase, I often saved 70 -200 2.8, but with it it is not always possible to cover everything. Now it is less often used with all the ego's real virtues. 24-85 is very sharp at 800, focuses quickly. The extreme points also do not miss at all focal points {for 24-70 there were two settings: wide and long ends}. 24-85 slightly less contrast with the same sharpness. The bokeh is soft, without "straw" and bagels. The bokeh is one to one at aperture 4.5 with a focus of 85 from 85 1.4 at aperture 4.5., And in sharpness you can only see if you look closely at the contrast. Fix wins with microcontrast on a dark background in good lighting. Very convenient was the lower contrast than the top 24 70 2.8 with the preservation of details in the shadows. For senior photographers, the phenidone nature of the picture will be clear, in contrast to the metol-hydroquinone in top ones. Sample 24 mm on Nikon d800.
