Replacement copy

I have a LoRider fiberglass hardcover on a 6 foot '99 Ford F150 platform. This is the locking handle for the locking system. It was an exact replacement and fit perfectly. I like that it lies relatively flat when closed, allowing you to carry a mattress over a hard case, for example. For a lot less money I could have replaced it with a T-handle lock that doesn't have a "pop up" feature, but I was happy to find one. My only complaint (and the reason I didn't give it 5 stars) is that the packaging was poor for the price. Installation requires two #10 x 1ΒΎ" pan head machine screws with appropriate nuts and washers, and a flare nut to protect the set screw holding the lockout cable in place from breaking. (If this screw fails and the lockout handle cable fails , this would be impossible to open the hard top.) Once installed, the clip is difficult to remove without damaging it. I thought all four (bolts, nuts, washers and clip) should be included - especially for the price. I bought stainless hardware including the locknuts (which I would recommend to anyone using this lock for this application.) The original bolts were not stainless and one of them was so badly rusted that it broke and I had to drill it out (not that easy in fiberglass).I couldn't find a replacement clip but I managed to reinstall the old one but not everyone is so lucky. In general I'm perfectly satisfied, except that I figured a relatively expensive package should include mounting hardware e - and, maybe a 'failsafe' clip.

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • Not the best
