Refurbished, no longer works

I have an Xfinity with voice output, so I'm dependent on two modem options (no loaners). The first modem was Arris T25 and it didn't work so I tried this one. First, this is NOT a modem/router. So if you expect WIFI from it, this is not the device for you! This is a cable/voice modem only. I bought a refurbished modem, it arrived on time and looked spectacular - like new. I liked this modem. Connected WITHOUT calling Xfinity, no problem. I used my own router and later connected another router as a mesh device. It worked great! I was happy. About a month after connecting, I suddenly couldn't connect to the internet. Nothing worked. I took the router out of the mix and went straight to the modem. Reset after reset, eventually it got connected but never connected again through my router. I quit because I work from home. Tried again a few weeks later. I CANNOT connect it. Xfinity was useless as it's not their gear. You can't update the firmware on these modems - only the cable provider can do it, and then they claim they don't. Long story short, I sent this modem back because it no longer works. I don't know if the Xfinity was the problem but I don't think it was - they saw the modem and said it was getting a signal. I also don't know if it had anything to do with the fact that they were refurbished, but for $200 I took no chances and returned it. I'm still considering buying a brand new one to see if I have any issues but I'm a little confused about the price. When it worked it was amazing.
