Good modem, call for voice/telephone activation

For years I paid Comcast to rent a Wi-Fi cable modem just to turn off the Wi-Fi and use my own router and hotspot. In fact, the cable modem made it famous. $16 a month down the drain. I decided to save some money, bought this quality modem, refurbished, and off I went. It should pay off in a year. Enabling the cable modem to transmit data was easy. Plug in your modem, wait for it to connect, open your browser and you will be redirected to the xfinity activation page. Sign up and I was online in

Update: The problem was fixed the day after writing this review. It took several connect/disconnect sessions for the activation page to appear. After the website appeared, there were no problems and the modem started working immediately. I contacted Comcast as recommended and they had boot code for a later version that they wanted to run. It worked. I've increased the speed to 1GB and seen this on PCs with a fixed ethernet cable. Speed around 900Mb/s. But the rest of the network (Google Mesh…

Trust me. Press the back button and keep looking

This is my first review. As someone who often reads reviews and wonders if people who give poor reviews of certain products are incompetent or the product really sucks, please take my word for it and pass this modem on. I just switched to the xfinity 1000Mbps service and needed a modem that could handle it. The description of this product states that it supports speeds up to 2000Mbps, so I thought this was more than enough. Setting it up this morning after activating my services from xfinity, I

Refurbished, no longer works

I have an Xfinity with voice output, so I'm dependent on two modem options (no loaners). The first modem was Arris T25 and it didn't work so I tried this one. First, this is NOT a modem/router. So if you expect WIFI from it, this is not the device for you! This is a cable/voice modem only. I bought a refurbished modem, it arrived on time and looked spectacular - like new. I liked this modem. Connected WITHOUT calling Xfinity, no problem. I used my own router and later connected another router…

Buyers beware of modems

The modem arrived in an unmarked box with no factory packaging and with a few scuffs. I studied the ad carefully and noticed that it says "Updated" in very small type. If I had noticed that before buying, I would have spent the same amount on a new one. I could live with that, but after spending literally the better part of a Sunday on the phone with Comcast (mostly on hold), this modem was finally determined to be faulty or misconfigured. This was after at least 20 resets. Coincidentally, we…

Fast modem but can be tricky to install

I bought this modem for my home when I switched to Comcast Xfinity. NOTE - This is a modem only. It does not include a wireless router. I bought a new Synology RT2600ac wireless router to connect to a modem wirelessly. The cable man installed a NetGear modem and at first it seemed to work. But when I connected a couple of Wi-Fi routers to the modem with wires, like in my previous setup, I couldn't access the internet through them. I was able to connect directly to the network via modem using an

Poor tech support and software design

I bought a Netgear modem and a Netgear router at the same time. I was able to set them up first. WiFi suddenly stopped working yesterday. Apparently the problem is not with the modem but with the router. My son's computer was connected to the modem with an ethernet cable and his internet was working, but the router was not receiving internet from the modem. After rebooting everything and changing cables several times, I called tech support. After 45 minutes of waiting, the technician assigned…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Not very maintainable

So Revain wants me to star them for "transparency" and "thickness" rate. What does that mean? Doesn't matter? Is it relevant to more than 0.0001% of buyers? I tried this modem and returned this modem. I had this great plan to use LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol) for the core devices in my house so that when the home network finally connects to the Xfinity network I have the best chance of using all my bandwidth. Pay for. I overheard some people going over 1000Mbps with Xfinity because…
