For years I paid Comcast to rent a Wi-Fi cable modem just to turn off the Wi-Fi and use my own router and hotspot. In fact, the cable modem made it famous. $16 a month down the drain. I decided to save some money, bought this quality modem, refurbished, and off I went. It should pay off in a year. Enabling the cable modem to transmit data was easy. Plug in your modem, wait for it to connect, open your browser and you will be redirected to the xfinity activation page. Sign up and I was online in minutes. The speed is as fast or faster than before. The phone was a little different. Phone activation required calling comcast/xfinity and routing to the activation department. It went smoothly and quickly, but was an extra step. Maybe 5-10 minutes call. Only one of the four ports works. Comcast only gives you an IP address from the start, which you then use for distribution. How it is. I see there is a connection pooling setting in the modem config, but unless I get a plan above 300Mbps I won't bother. As for the star rating for "WiFi Signal". I gave him a star. This is not a WiFi hotspot. scratches his head.
