Review on πŸ”Œ Enhanced X-ACTO XLR Electric Pencil Sharpener by Amy Mcleod

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Arrived . Already dead when they arrived. Unfortunately.

When I received my sharpener, it didn't work at all. After clearing things up with Revain, I went into the sharpener and found that the problem wasn't with the power cord or the motor. This was the automatic switching system that many sharpeners use. The removable plastic container has a small plastic rise. When properly inserted and fully seated, this tip will hit a switch that I think is probably in series with the pen tip detection switch as well. As another buyer mentioned, it's poorly designed. I would also like to add that the one I received in my original order is very noisy. I've had high end office sharpeners for years and they work smoothly and quietly. Revain replaced the original sharpener with a new one. However, my suspicion that the first batch was "refurbished" or "repackaged" was reinforced when I realized that the first unit had a broken piece in the bin and the cable appeared to have been mangled and then ready for shipping been repackaged. The new one works, but after seeing so many problems I took a closer look at the operation and noticed a noticeable wobble when the block was sharpened. As if the sharpening mechanism was out of balance. My general opinion is that while the original design of this device may be good, the current manufacturing facility supplying this product does not have a proper quality control system. Otherwise I wouldn't see so many negative ratings and reviews being consistent in their comments. It's 2-3 stars. I figured I should have paid more to get what I've known for years as a quality sharpener.

Solid sharpener, works well, but gave my engineering self a good test today.
