I was impressed with the splitter's weight, balance and cutting power. The cleaver looks aggressive but is very functional. This is a dual purpose blade with a grind best suited for heavy use - bone, hard gristle. A finer grind is suitable for finer cutting - vegetables, meat. What I didn't think about at first was the storage. It is a knife with two blades that are sharp on both the normal side of the blade and the point side. I bought a sheath but it took a lot of dexterity to put it in and take it out. Solution: magnetic cutting board. Now I don't have to fiddle with the edges going in and out of the sheath and they look great on the kitchen counter with my other chef's knives. Highly recommended.
