This is the third intake I've tried on my 2015 Silverado 5.3L. The first was the SLP Blackwing, which was so loud I ended up taking it off. It sounded good but too much for me. Then I tried the Airaid MIT, it's just a tube. A nice improvement in bass response and a noticeable slight increase in power at high rpm, but the sound is almost non-existent compared to the original. Finally, the K&N device seems to be the best of the three. The pipe is chrome plated and looks good. I noticed an immediate improvement in low-rpm throttle response, just like the Airaid. The tires now want to deflate when accelerating out of a corner, which wasn't the case with the Stockbox. The sound is good, almost nonexistent when cruising, but moderate to hard throttle produces a pleasant growl that's nowhere near as obnoxious as an SLP unit. Sounds like a truck now and compliments my OEM Borla muffler system nicely. Overall very happy with it, I plan on staying with it. The car drives normally, no check engine light, nothing. I'm not exactly sure why the SLP was so noisy, but the difference is that it had a plastic tube (which is also a K&N option) and also the filter element housing was basically a plastic tub, not just double-sided metal like K&N . I have to assume that the plastic parts simply added more resonance and volume.
