The new caps with child protection are ridiculous. It was definitely worth it for me to get them before they were all gone. Childproof caps are hard to use, especially when it's cold or you're wearing gloves (think snow camping where ONLY white gas works, so you're GUARANTEED to be working with your fuel bottles a lot!) Another silly problem with childproof caps is that they're for white gas can be used. This is of course dangerous and needs to be handled safely at home, whether the lid is childproof or not. I keep all my fuel bottles empty on a shelf out of the reach of children, and even if they have a bottle they don't pose a safety hazard as long as I keep them empty. The current price is ridiculous, especially compared to how much baseball caps cost or how much they absolutely cost a few years ago. Is it worth getting involved in nonsense on the trail, not wanting to be "ripped off" as a matter of principle. definitely NOT, especially when it comes to a few bucks.
