Belt and Suspenders

If you don't already have MicroJig's Advanced GRR-RIPPER 3D Pusher, you should get one. This is the first step to truly safe and reliable cutting with a table saw. This is a belt. As well as the GRR-RIPPER works, there are times when you can't use it or some other factor makes the cut prone to kickback. This is where suspenders come into play. The MJ splitter keeps the kerf open so neither the keeper nor the cutters can touch the spine of the blade. In addition, it acts as a variable pressure spring board to keep the workpiece firmly attached to the guide rail. Installation is easy. The guide is a little intimidating at first, but I recommend reading it in full twice. Then just step by step and you're done. I thought I was having trouble drilling my old Leecraft phenolic ZCI. Another reviewer recommended drilling just enough to mark the spots and then finishing drilling on a drill press. I contacted the excellent MicroJig customer service and they agreed it was a good idea. Turns out I didn't need it. Drilling was painless and relatively quick. Because you can choose how much pressure each side of the divider puts on the holder and trim, I dialed in a single + for an additional .003" of offset on each side. It gave me a little more freedom without getting bogged down in work. I have to say since using the GRR-RIPPER and this MJ splitter I have a much happier relationship with my table saw. Although I still recognize that she demands respect, I feel much more comfortable and secure. I take clean breaks without binding or burning out. And I didn't cut myself at all. This is a great investment and I would highly recommend it. In fact, grab the GRR Ripper and the MJ Splitter and see what a difference it makes, you won't regret it.
