Review on 🔒 POP & LOCK - Ford/Mazda Manual Tailgate Lock, PL2310 (Traditional Style) (Exclusively Fits Factory Plastic Handle) (Black) by Zachary Pete

Eh not impressed. Probably not really worth the money.

Received the Pop & Lock today and installed it on my 2005 Ford Ranger with relative ease. Of course, I regularly work with cars, but in general this is not a difficult installation even for a not very experienced person. The lock works; However, I am not very impressed with the quality of the product. There are a few things that need improvement: (1) The actual cam that keeps the handle locked is too long so it hits the tailgate before it has completed its full open rotation. It twists to lock and twists enough to open, but it's obviously not designed for that. This is probably because the lock is 'designed' for a variety of trucks (according to them it fits F150 87-96, F250/350 87-89, Ford Ranger 93+ and Mazda B Series 94+). I bet the lock won't "fit" all of these truck models, but it will "work", so consider it. (2) The locking cam only restricts the movement of the rear door rod on the passenger side. This means that the bar and handle on the driver's side will actually flex a little when pulled when the lock is engaged. All I know is that this handle will eventually break from repeated uneven loading or if someone decides to engage in a tug of war with my tailgate. I definitely wish the lock would engage the rods on both the passenger side and driver's side. (3) The lock leaves more space between the tailgate and the tailgate handle. This allows more rain, snow, and dirt to get into the tailgate, which is likely to cause other problems down the road. (Yes, I installed it correctly. I even did it 3 times to make sure everything lined up correctly. Like I said, this is an easy install, so it didn't take long to reinstall.) Overall, I don't either like but and I don't hate. I think if it works, it works, but I wish there were better options. unfortunately they are not.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
