No Spacer and Beware of the Learning Cycle

I was surprised that no spacer was included and spent time trying to find one. It turned out that the old one was still good after 155,000 miles, but the new one was not needed. Vehicle: 2013 VW Jetta SE 2.5L L5 cylinder. Then the car started to rough, the transmission started to shift abruptly, and the "Check Engine" light stayed on. It then went into emergency mode, AutoZone reading OBD codes PO122 and PO638 at 15mph. First I replaced the gas pedal but the symptoms are the same. Then I noticed that the printed code said that Master Techs said the most likely solution would be to replace the throttle body. Replacement: The replacement was pretty easy. The hardest part was attaching the air duct to the engine cover. Removal of the engine cover, air ducts and front air duct attachment was required to free up work space. Supplied with large adjustable clamp pliers, large bending screwdriver, torx drivers and sockets, and a 1/4" drive. Self-tapping screws secure the throttle body to the plastic manifold inlet, eliminating the need for high-torque items. The fuel line connector used one Clamp type clamp that is difficult to remove and can't be reused so I had to replace it with a 5/8" clamp which luckily I have. OEM and other brands were $350-$650 which I don't do I saw this aftermarket unit for a fraction of the price so I was skeptical but it only had 4 and 5 star reviews so I bet it. As I said it fits almost perfectly. I don't need one another 150,000 miles. I will report long-term results after further use. Results: After installation and reassembly, I reconnected the battery en and the car started. The Check Engine and ECP lights were off but the idle was very erratic. I didn't have a scanner to clear codes. Disconnected battery and waited 15 minutes, reconnected and restarted. Still unstable but slightly better and transmission smoothed out a bit. Rode a block and gotten better but still the shift wasn't normal. I rode to higher speeds longer and idled smooth at the normal 650 rpm. e, and the shifting that looked like a broken gearbox seemed almost normal now, and the engine seemed to run and idle just as smoothly as it had thousands of miles ago. So the relearn seems to be automatic, with battery disconnect and some drive cycles. For now, this is the perfect replacement. Will be updated if something goes wrong. Highly recommended in form, function and above all for the price!
