Review on πŸ”Œ BrosTrend Linux WiFi Adapter: 1200Mbps, Long Range, Windows 11 Compatible by Alvaro Delic

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works on Linux. Definitely on Manjaro/Arch.

I got this while working on Manjaro with kernel 5.8.7. Basically, if it works on every Linux distribution, it will work on all of them, but the package/installer may not work properly. I got it working without too much trouble, but first I accidentally tried to install the wrong driver and it didn't work until I installed the correct one. The BrosTrend 1200 that I received has an rtl88x2bu chipset. You can find out what chipset you have by plugging it in and running lsusb in a terminal. Apparently there are two versions of this adapter and the older ones use the rtl88x2au chipset. In any case, there are many packages in the AUR for these drivers. The one I had success with was rtl88x2bu-dkms-git. dkms drivers require you to rebuild the kernel headers after installing the driver, and this is where a lot of people get lost. After installing the driver, (re)install "linux-headers" and reboot and you should have a working adapter. In terms of performance, I get download speeds of 100-150MB/s where I had 30 on my laptop. Adapter (using the Speedtest terminal application). In my case it increases the performance a bit.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Some bugs
