This helps eliminate the hyper firmware. but they get quite hot especially when you use them in combination with tail light and turn signals. I ran 2 of these in parallel just for the parking lights and they were still way too warm for my liking, I really didn't want to risk setting my car on fire. Also, you're still using the same if not MORE power to drive LEDs with resistors. I took them off and spent the extra money on a rotary relay. Don't skimp on the relay, buy a Diode Dynamics SmartTap, or better yet, buy the original TapTurn, support the creator of the original! I've heard that the original TapTurn works better and has more features, but I have yet to learn. I did a bit of digging to find TapTurn, but SmartTap is on Prime. $60 is a small price to pay to get it right. Most Subaru vehicles will require a cf18 type relay, but do your research first.
