Like a ratchet they work great. We used them to hold up the roof rack because we were a bit nervous about the weight, as well as a few other things outside of the roof rack. It worked great. BUT two engineers, one with a masters degree, couldn't figure out how to use them without watching several different videos on You Tube. Multiple times. And while trying to figure it out, he screwed up one of the rattles. Engineers usually ignore instructions and just do what is obvious. Things that don't work until you read the instructions are considered "poorly designed". But things that can't be understood with instructions and require YouTube videos? The path to the past is poorly laid out. And way past the bad directions. So a maximum of three stars. But every time we engage with them again, they work well, so return a star.
