We have fitted these to our sliding gates in place of the traditional protruding handles. Because our doors were in high-traffic and small areas, we were afraid that we would constantly come across traditional handles. They work great on either side of the doors. They're nice and heavy, no rough edges, nice and smooth feel (they don't feel like rough rough metal, more like smooth coated finish), just a very light texture.
