Review on πŸ”’ Kwikset 99550-003 Smart Code 955 Electronic Lever: Unlock Security with Venetian Bronze Finish by Niko Knight

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great replacement for the Kwikset 5 button lock

We have had a Kwikset 5 button lock on our door for a number of years. Entering the code was easy (you can type in all the numbers with your thumb pretty quickly while keeping your hand on the stylus), but the mechanism was terrible. Sometimes it unlocked instantly, sometimes it took 5 cycles or it didn't unlock at all. It also automatically locks every time unless you unscrew the cover and flip the microswitch on the back, then it always stays unlocked unless you press the lock button. And the battery compartment was awful, I had to undo 2 hex head screws and I actually had to release the latch to push the compartment out. The batteries have probably been gone for well over a year, but it's still an ordeal. It's great in comparison, except for the keyboard. It's not a bad thing, it's actually twice as safe to have more keys, it was just that the 5th key was easier to type into the code. But everything else is better. The latch releases quickly and securely, and the thumb rotates back to toggle from auto-latch to pass-through (perfect for us when we're working in the garden or on the porch). It uses a 9V battery, easy to put in and take out, and there are no screws in the cover so it's easy to swap out. Anyway, programming is a bit tedious for me. It was not clear in the instructions that you should press program button 1, then the kw button, then the desired code, then the kw button. But I got it and everything is fine.
