Review on Big Gator Tools STD1000DGNP V-Drill Guide: Accurate and Versatile Drilling Solution by Anferny Pineda

Great tool with some "hidden " applications.

I purchased this drill guide about a year ago to use for its intended purpose and I am very happy with the results I have had with it on various projects. This really helps a lot when I need to drill/align multiple holes and it's not possible to get to the drill press. I see several reviews here indicating that some users have had issues with proper positioning and/or holding on during a drilling operation. It is important to understand that this is a guide, not a drill holder. So my advice (and FREE for it. [G!]). Follow the placement guidelines carefully. Using the guide marks on the side and end, draw two additional lines at right angles if necessary. through the indentation you made for the exact position, and then align the guide to those drawn lines. "Double Check", a look into the correct hole, confirms that you have calculated the money correctly. The tip of shining a flashlight through the V-groove to illuminate the marked spot is a good idea, as is the technique of inserting the drill bit into the appropriate hole, placing the end of the drill bit at the marked spot, and then lower the guide down until it stops. your work. At this point everything should be ready. But for a final check, remove the drill bit and inspect the hole. If you make even the smallest mistake, it will be very noticeable. Start the exercise. Go slowly, don't apply lateral forces to the drill, try to loosen the grip of the drill so it doesn't put pressure on the sides of the guide. while maintaining strength. guide handle. A clamp is a GREAT way to do this, but when done correctly, near zero torque should be applied to the guide itself. Several people have found they cannot drill longer or deeper holes due to the size of the guide. . Once you've made the hole, you can remove the guide, reinsert the bit, and drill back into the properly aligned hole, drilling the bit all the way through. Besides "normal" use of this guide, I have found it very useful in several other "non-traditional" applications. When trying to decide what hole size and drill bit to use for a screw, I use the tool's pilot holes to find the outside diameter of the screw and then choose a drill bit that's a size or two smaller. wood is included. This is much easier and more accurate than trying to hold the drill next to the thread and guessing how big or small the drill should be. It's also an easy way to determine the actual drill bit size of the bit you took out of the bin and wondered what size it really was. I also used this tool to make perfect 90 degrees. Joints with plastic rods that I had to glue with superglue (CA). Because you only have a few seconds to position the rod or tube before the CA begins to harden, and the joint needs to remain perfectly still during those 10-20 seconds, I use a fine alignment guide and end up wearing a small amount of CA on the rod/tubes, quickly slide it through the guide and it's in the perfect position where I can apply pressure while tuning and not have to worry about any wobbling on my part. You have to be careful not to glue everything together. But that's part of the challenge! The truth is that if you're using so much SA in a joint that this can happen, you're probably using too much SA in the first place. And since this lead is moderately heavy, just under 1/2 lb., it is sometimes used as a weight during gluing operations.
