This was supposed to replace my old J-style kayak rack I have a Hobie Mirage Oasis tandem, great kayak but it weighs a ton. When mounted on my J-Mount it wobbled too much for my liking. Also, part of the J carry bag presses heavily on the side of my kayak. I also noticed that these cradles were starting to buckle on the sides. So the saddle style was the way out. I bought it after a long research. I'm glad I did as it was very easy to set up and my heavy kayak now feels very secure. The nuts can only be tightened by hand. I have to tighten them up a bit every time I go on a long trip or a bumpy gravel road. I would have thought that a simple lock nut would have improved this a lot more. I think you have to go to a hardware store for that.
