Jaw pads are too soft: Pliers

The quality of workmanship meets our expectations of knipex, but the jaw pads are WAY too soft. When I try to apply enough pressure to pull out or tighten the gun connector, the pads compress so much that the pliers either slip off the connector or just twist without grabbing the connector. My old blue-tipped pot tongs with a hard red plastic insert still work perfectly even after 14 years of wear and tear. I guess I'll just buy him fresh pads. Very disappointing because the Knipex frame is MUCH better in design and quality but doesn't work with pads.
