Review on ASUS VG279Q1R Gaming Monitor - 1080P, 144Hz Refresh Rate, Tilt Adjustment, Built-In Speakers, Blue Light Filter by Jarel Carrera

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great monitor with a quality control issue

I've always bought ASUS monitors and have never had a problem with any of them. I decided that with my upgraded system it was time to get a 144Hz monitor and so far it hasn't disappointed. The reason I'm giving one star is because the one I received, even though it was factory packed and sealed, had a curved stand. to adjust. I pulled it out of the box and it leaned heavily to one side. I figured maybe the bracket just wasn't tight enough, so I unscrewed it and put it back together again and again and again. Finally, I pulled out the bracket and examined it and found that one of the metal slots that the monitor rests on on one side is bent. It was so bad I didn't even try to bend it, just bought an aftermarket stand for $25. A minor annoyance that shouldn't have happened to QA but is now on a new stand and the monitor is great. Gaming wise I've used it in Planetside 2 with my 5500XT mech with FreeSync enabled and it's absolutely perfect. Colors are good, adjustments are easy in the menu with a single button on the back of the monitor, which has an AMAZING design (next time better on a stand!). My brain has become so accustomed to using my old monitor that the lack of stuttering when gaming is actually quite annoying, so I'm happy to get used to it and I'm sure my eyes will appreciate it over time. All in all a solid monitor. Just hope your level is up and running right away!

Pros
  • ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur (ELMB) technology delivers a 1ms response time (MPRT) along with adaptive sync to eliminate ghosting and screen tearing for crisp, high frame rate gaming images.
Cons
  • Image retention: If an image is on the screen for too long, the image may remain on the screen permanently.
