The product works. It is great. but I wonder why you need it at all. If you read reviews. You will see MANY people ordering a garage door opener and not being able to install it because they need an extension. This is clearly a marketing attempt to lower the explorer's initial cost. However, almost all garages will need it (unless you live in a much older home). This situation causes a lot of frustration and anger. in terms of waste. I'm not sure which is worse. To have an extra piece of metal that isn't being used, or buy an extension cord and then have an unused chain/strap from the opener. To top it off. even with the extension for which I have to pay 1/4 the cost of the opener. it was still a few inches shorter than the Chamberlain it replaced. It took a lot more work than expected to put everything together. Extensions work if you need them (measure your garage opener to see if you need it). It's just not the kind of effective advancement that I think the world of garage door openers should strive for. I think it's time for the younger generation to build a better/different mousetrap and let Gene/Chamberlain buy it (since they won't innovate) or take over the garage door opener market.
