The packaging sucks. But a few spacers made it a useful tool post. I hope the attached photos tell the story. But basically there is so much dirt in the dovetail that you'll be surprised how the tool holder actually stays in place once tightened. But a gasket glued to the stand under the dovetail works quite well (just one for each instrument position). I think my pads were around 20k thick but I'm sure you need to find what's right for you. Also, each tool holder has a slightly different fit (maybe a thousand differences), but just let the shim work with the tightest holder. Do not use CA glue (e.g. superglue) as the glue. Use epoxy or elastic glue.
