This is good planting material for my orchids. Not necessarily a product criticism, but two things to keep in mind when using them for this purpose: 1. The skin will turn red when watered which can stain anything you have under the plant. The side of the shell fragments is small enough to fall through the bottom of some Vanda baskets. You can solve this problem by filling the bottom of the basket with a couple of thin pieces of coconut lining, which are available cheaply from Revain or your local Home Depot, Lowes, Nursery, etc.
