We had a problem with our very high mileage 2007 Suburban 5.3L. The oil pressure gauge showed good readings until it warmed up and then randomly dropped to zero, although the engine ran fine with no sign of low oil pressure. We've had this issue before and fixed these symptoms by either clearing this screen or replacing the faulty sender box, so I ordered both parts because I didn't want to do the job twice (search YouTube for some good videos, like You can do this without having to remove the intake manifold, but it still hurts a bit). After pulling out the old sensor block, I found a mounting screw that was the right size for the threads in the new strainer and used that screw to pull the old strainer out slightly. The old one was quite dirty and had a small crack in the screen and the old transmitter box had a crack in the plastic but was not leaking. However, it's probably a good idea to swap out both parts. I replaced both parts and crawled out of the engine bay (seriously, GM? I can literally stand in the engine bay, but do you have to put that sensor in such a horrible place?). started it, took a test drive, but as soon as I pulled into the driveway everything happened again. Again no dice. I've read on some forums that others have solved this problem with a simple oil change. The oil was very dirty and the oil change station had a very cheap filter installed so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it before we started removing the oil pans, replacing the intake manifold o-rings and everything else. So oil and filter changed to a fully synthetic oil and filter Mobile 1. Driven a few times since then and so far no more oil pressure problems. The code scanner shows a good constant oil pressure average in the 50psi range and the gauge shows the same. So, bottom line - try changing the oil and filter first. You probably still need it.
