The birds love it and so do I

I feed a handful of mealworms with sunflower seeds in my wild bird feeders. This is the first to be sold out. I bought it from pet stores but it was quite expensive. These worms are large and well dried. Since worms are dry and light, 11 pounds is a huge bag (the size of a 40 pound bag of pet food) and should take months. I also add mealworms to homemade lard treats; 1 can of crunchy peanut butter, 1 pound of lard, 2 cups of coarse cornmeal (or more, enough to make it less greasy), 1 cup of soaked, dried, and chopped raisins and cranberries, 1 cup of chopped nut mix, and 2 cups of wormmeal. Place the first 2 in a large saucepan, heat over low heat until melted and add the cornmeal. Add the remaining optional ingredients. Smear on a log or smear a feeder with grease. We especially love woodpeckers and nuthatches. Keep it in the fridge or freezer, I just keep it in the shed in winter.

Pros
  • It's amazing
Cons
  • Not as fat as the others
