Good Starting Stone - Hand & Power Tools

Great stone for learning! Let it soak for about 5 minutes until it stops bubbling. It definitely works well with the right technique. You have to use the right technique or you won't have much luck with any whetstone. I have made many knives that cut paper sharply, this stone alone does the job. Other than that I learned a lot from it but have since moved on to nicer and bigger stones. The 1000 side of this stone wears out quickly with heavy use. But for the average home cook who only wants to sharpen a few knives a few times a year, this is perfect! On the other hand, it will take time now. If anyone really wants to "get into" whetstones, just skip all those entry-level combo stones, do a little research, and spend a few hundred bucks on nicer things.
