GMC spare tire winches bind and prevent use of spare tire

If you have a GMC/Chevy truck/SUV built since 2001, your spare tire may get stuck under the truck. is a "secondary safety locking mechanism" on a GMC "spare wheel winch" that gets stuck in the "locked" position due to rust/salt/dirt etc getting on your truck's chassis. Once this safety latch is engaged you will need a gas cutter to remove the spare tire. If you drive in places where winter means snow and salty gravel on the roads, it will eventually get stuck in the 'locked' position and once this happens you are effectively driving WITHOUT a spare wheel. How long it takes before it sticks depends on a lot of things, but if I ever buy another GMC truck and it has that kind of "safety" feature, I'll throw out the spare tire as soon as I get off the car home come business. Dealer and permanently secure this security latch in the "unlatched" position (maybe just weld it like that). Either way, this Dorman winch is the perfect replacement when you need to burn out your GMC spare wheel winch and need another. Go under your truck, unscrew a bolt, pull out that old GMC winch you grabbed and cut up, put a Dorman in, screw the bolt back on and voila. Insert the "holder" into the tire and lift it up with a winch. Did. And you no longer have to worry about the safety catch blocking the spare tire because this winch doesn't have that ridiculous feature.
