Review on 3 Inch πŸ•³οΈ Makita 714085 Carbide Hole by Travis Oetting

Impressive mild steel blade

Works surprisingly well, definitely impressed. I made one of those fairly labor intensive (36) 1-1/2" holes in .06" mild steel box tubing and still has plenty of time. There are no major chips on the carbide teeth - they are definitely worn but still very usable. I have about a dozen more holes to drill and I suspect he will. I bought a couple of traditional bi-metal hole saws as a backup but I don't think I'll need them. This thing worked fine in a Dewalt 18v cordless tool, although the drill almost melted after 15-20 holes. I switched to a traditional 120V hand drill and it ended up almost smoking too. This drill is actually better suited to the low speed setting of a cordless tool as the AC drill really ran too fast and didn't have that much torque to power this thing. I used some thick cutting oil from my grinder which seemed to help a lot.
