Review on πŸ–¨οΈ Effortless CD/DVD Label Printing with Primera Signature Z1 Printer by Tim Knoepfle

Who cares what a good printer is

I bought this printer and was initially happy that I no longer had to put paper labels on CDs. The problem is that about 1/3 of my CD prints fine, but the rest prints fuzzy or very fuzzy with spurious blocks around the 4 different zones it prints in. After mailing the CDs I was completely confused and decided to spend $89. on the Epson Stylus R200. My god, what a great printer! Full color graphics, high resolution with no smearing, good ink quality. I would probably spend 3x more for Epson and it's cheaper than Signature! So I'm excited. I haven't had the CD boot problems that other customers are having, although I can still try contacting tech support and getting a newer bootloader as suggested by a customer. Also, the editing software was easy and I was certainly suspicious of learning yet another layout application. Received my first CD exactly as I wanted in about 20 minutes. Convenient text editing, easy shadow placement, color support for text and shadows, good import and good graphic size. I experimented with dampening the CD and the ink stuck well but some smeared. While experimenting, I noticed that the background of the CD smears even when wet, so I can't tell yet if it's just a CD or also ink. The manual says to buy inkjet CDs and that might be a good idea. Maybe this is an Epson R200 review but having bought both I find it more valuable to have it here.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly torn
