In the end my problem remained and the installation was very painful. The biggest issue was the glue used to hold the factory fork in place. It's like concrete. Most people pull the wire out of the plug to unplug it, but knowing this I was careful. There was so much glue left on the emergency plug that it was almost impossible to get to the new switch. In my situation I had bad solder joints on the instrument cluster. If your car starts fine but the gear indicators are burned out, I would investigate that as well. You also need to make sure this is lined up correctly or your car will not start. The shifter does not recognize the gears in the correct position and does not start when you know you are in park or neutral. Simply loosen the mounting screws and move them slightly and tighten again.
