Review on Enhance Precision and Efficiency with the Drill Doctor DD500X Drill Bit Sharpener by Vangele Carson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Convenient to use for power tool parts and accessories

Before buying, I was wondering if it was possible to sharpen short bits. But I suspect not very many people know that there are "short drills" such as the cobalt drill used in machine shops. Now I know for those who have the same questions. Any length bits can be installed in the chuck, but short bits "2-1/4" or shorter" will not allow you to rotate it once it is installed, so you will have to slide it forward, make sure the angle with its "Shortest" part between the two flutes of the drill will align with the alignment tabs when you insert it into the "alignment holes". then you can tighten the chuck. The easiest way to check your drill's drill angle, whether it's 118* or 135*, is to put two hex nuts together and place the drill, making sure the sharp edge is on one side, and then on the Page look bright. A 118* bit fits right on top of it, but a 135* bit has a gap. Most cobalt bits are for hard steel, so typically 135*. TIP: IT'S IN THE MANUAL. The Alignment Fortress has a central notch of 118* by default. But for 135* it's a notch to the right from 118* (-) Very happy with the usability - five stars.
